The crossover market in Russia is surprisingly stable: the top five sales are confidently occupied by budget crossovers like the Niva or Duster, but changes are possible in the TOP 10 sales: for example, during the reporting period of the first half of the year of sales of the new LADA XRay, this half-hatchback, half-crossover was able to displace much more venerable competitors .

And what could be more classic than Niva? Even if it lost its name in the process, having received in return the modest name 4x4. Perhaps the most serious problem of the Niva can be considered just the engine: 83 forces are not enough in many situations, although it literally has the geometric and psychological cross-country ability “behind the eyes”.

The last of the domestic “rogues” and number five in the TOP 10 most popular crossovers in Russia. Unlike competitors above, Qashqai in Russia is valued not for its cross-country ability, but precisely for the measured comfort of city life.
The price determines the content - and that’s what Nissan Qashqai is all about. For a basic 1.1 million rubles you can get a modest 115-horsepower turbocharged engine and a manual transmission with front-wheel drive, but there is quite a lot of standard equipment here and it is quite interesting: in addition to standard ABS + EBD + ESP, the crossover is equipped with an airbag system (not only front ones) ), cruise control, numerous assistants and electronic assistants... and much more. Which, however, does not make the basic package the most desirable in the opinion of its many buyers.
The Nissan Qashqai has three engines: two petrol (1.2 DIG-T 115 hp and 2.0 144 hp) and a diesel (1.6 dCi 130 hp), supplied with either a 6-speed manual transmission , or a continuously variable CVT.

Nissan X-Trail
Nissan's X is more expensive, larger in size, but looks the same as Qashqai. More precisely, on the contrary: it was the younger Qashqai that was “brought” to the design of the older X-Trail. That does not prevent him from being in 7th place in this rating.

A new design and a very controversial appearance is the updated Kia Sportage of the current generation. The updated Kia Sportage is based on the platform from the latest generation Hyundai Tucson, and therefore the design of the car, as well as the length of its wheelbase, have changed. The car has become more spacious and received a completely new interior design. In particular, new, more comfortable seats are installed inside the Kia Sportage 2016 model year, the dashboard received a large touch screen, and the center console has also been modified, becoming more comfortable.
There have been no such dramatic changes under the hood: the Korean crossover on the Russian market is offered with three engines from 150 to 185 hp, which is not so different from the “old” Sportage.
Compared to its competitors, the KIA Sportage rises head and shoulders above. Of course, you can compare with a French budget car, but it is better to choose a more affluent competitor, such as the Japanese RAV4. In the penultimate place of the ranking, but far from being in the penultimate place - in terms of buyers' interests is the new domestic SUV LADA XRay. Many people talk about the LADA XRay as more of a hatchback than a crossover, but that’s up to you to decide. It was the single-wheel drive version that was included in the rating, because the all-wheel drive version was in development at the time of writing. Moreover: in order to install all-wheel drive, engineers had to abandon the Renault Sandero “trolley” for the Duster platform.
If we compare the VAZ “X” with its competitors, then everything is not so simple: with a price of 580 thousand rubles, it is as close as possible to the Chevy Niva... Or the basic Patriot, taking into account all the discounts. However, he is hopelessly losing to the latter: LADA XRay is, first and foremost, a city dweller. With all this, it definitely wins as a city car: the “base” already has 106 hp, excellent adaptation to modern Russia and an exterior that is not at all washed out in city traffic.
And what is competition worth anyway, if XRay started its sales “with nothing at all” (February 2016), having managed to get into the top ten during the reporting period. This is worth a lot - including the interest of buyers.
